Cancer Rates of Industrial Workers

In certain industries, workers have higher rates of breast cancer. Female blue-collar workers exposed to solvents in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries experience increased incidence of breast cancer. Higher rates of breast cancer have also been found among female chemists. Female electrical workers show excess mortality rates from breast cancer relative to other employed women [Loomis et al., 1994]. Limited evidence has shown associations with increased risk among cosmetologists and beauticians [Goldberg and Labreche, 1996].
